On April 6th, Los Angeles-based Winnetka Bowling League opened for Waterparks at the Hollywood Palladium in Los Angeles, California. The band, made up of Matthew Koma (lead vocals/guitar), Sam Beresford (keyboard/backing vocals) and Kris Mazzarisi (drums), first started in 2018 as Koma’s attempt to return to his roots. Winnetka Bowling League received a warm welcome from the crowd. Many Waterparks fans at the barricade had clearly done their homework and dug into Winnetka Bowling League’s discography before the show.
A foggy atmosphere set the stage for the mood of their performance. They played several songs, including “On the 5,” “Slow Dances,” and “Sha La La,” while stopping in between to converse with the crowd. Early in their set, Koma talked about how he couldn’t get JoJo Siwa’s latest single, “Karma,” out of his head, then proceeded to sing a few lines as the entire venue erupted in laughter. Even though Winnetka Bowling League had more of a granola feel than Waterparks, the crowd still clearly enjoyed their set as an opener.
