Weathers: Summer 2023

Bowery Ballroom (New York, NY)
08/23/23

On August 23rd, California-based alternative-rock band Weathers played New York City’s iconic Bowery Ballroom alongside HOKO and Almost Monday. Kicking off the evening, New York’s own HOKO took the stage with an impressive set of indie-rock songs and high energy dancing that got the audience palpably excited for the evening to continue, the lead singer at one point even jumping off the stage to dance on the floor with the ecstatic crowd.

Following HOKO, Weathers emerged to passionate cheers from excited fans and declarations that New York had missed them. Weathers kicked off their set with “She Hates Me” off their latest full-length album, Are We Having Fun?, an upbeat and energetic rock song driven by drums and guitar that served as the perfect opener for their live set. The band followed up with “Always Tired,” a catchy single from 2019 that showed off lead singer Cameron Boyer’s impressive vocals and iconic dance moves. Boyer cheekily introduced “Drama Queen,” as an important song for “someone special that knows who they are,” smiling as he sang the opening lyric: “I really hate you.” Weathers had the audience’s full attention from the moment they took the stage, but the bold lyrics, catchy hook and infectious energy of “Drama Queen” quickly brought the night to a high point. Other highlights of the evening included an unexpected but perfectly executed mashup of Twenty One Pilots’ “Heathens” with new song “Where Do I Sign?”, the entire crowd jumping as one during the chorus of “Happy Pills,” an older but long-time fan favorite single, and the closing performance of their set with “I’m Not Okay” from 2018’s Kids in the Night.

Weathers’ live performance was an impressive display of both talent and stage presence from all members. Lead singer Boyer never missed a beat – from dancing during instrumental breaks to joining the audience and rocking alongside his fellow band members throughout the set. Bassist Brennan Bates kept a steady groove and effortlessly raised the energy, completing the rhythm section alongside captivating tour drummer Christian Champion of The Orphan The Poet. Guitarist Cameron Olsen also brought incredible melodies and solos, particularly during the bridge of “Drama Queen,” and perfectly matched Boyer’s seemingly limitless energy all evening.

Weathers is an alternative-rock band from Los Angeles, California. The band recently wrapped up a North American co-headlining tour with Almost Monday in support of their newest album, Are We Having Fun? which is now available on all streaming platforms. This fall, they will be joining The Maine and K. Flay on their respective tours for a handful of dates, and they are certainly not an act to miss.
