Waterparks: Property

The Fonda Theatre (Los Angeles, CA)
06/14/23

On June 14th, rock band Waterparks wrapped up their 29-city North American “Property” Tour in Los Angeles, California at the Fonda Theatre. The band is originally from Houston, Texas and was formed in 2011 by current lead singer Awsten Knight. Guitarist Geoff Wigington and drummer Otto Wood have since joined the band as well. Their fifth studio album, Intellectual Property, was released in April of this year and has been their biggest success yet, charting Top 10 in the U.K. and #33 on the Billboard Hot 200. Long-time fans entered the venue wearing merch from past tours, whereas others were decked out in all black outfits with chains and platform shoes.

The first support act for their final show of tour was Sophie Powers. The 18-year-old pop-rock artist was dressed in a shredded denim outfit and got the crowd pumped up and moving to her music. Second up was Hunny. The four-piece band heightened the energy that Powers created, suggesting to the crowd they could mosh and even asked everyone to turn on their phone flashlights for a song.

The crowd eagerly awaited the start of Waterparks’ set, and now it was finally time for the headliners to come on stage. As soon as the lights went down, fans began to scream as loud as they possibly could. For their first song of the evening, the boys played “ST*RFUCKER,” the first song on Intellectual Property. From the second the song started, fans immediately began crowd surfing from the back of the room all the way to the very front, before being pulled over the barricade and running around to the back to do it all over again. Fans in the front row screamed along to the lyrics, while being aware of the heavy boots that were attached to the end of flailing legs. Next up were “Numb” and “Rare,” followed by a mosh pit during “Stupid For You” off of their debut 2012 album, Double Dare. Waterparks made sure to incorporate a song from each of their albums on their setlist, even slowing things down with an acoustic medley of “Sleep Alone,” “21 Questions,” and “Not Warriors.” By the end of the night, fans were sad the show was over, but seemed satisfied with how the night had gone.

Waterparks will play at Four Chord Music Fest in Pittsburgh, PA in August and When We Were Young Festival in Las Vegas, NV and will embark on their EU Tour in the fall!
