Turnstile: Baltimore Youth Arts Benefit Show

Ottobar (Baltimore, MD)
05/15/23

Hardcore band Turnstile took a break from their arena tour supporting blink-182 to return to their roots in their hometown of Baltimore, Maryland. A no-barricade show is essential for hardcore bands, and rare for Turnstile these days as they’ve caught the attention of music lovers of all genres. Touring with indie-rock artists like Snail Mail, rapper JPEGMafia, and classic pop-punk band My Chemical Romance has broadened their reach in unimaginable ways, even earning them GRAMMY nominations for their third full-length album, GLOW ON.

The benefit show for Baltimore Youth Arts sold out nearly instantly, resulting in the 350 capacity venue being completely packed. Local hardcore-punk band Jivebomb opened the show before Turnstile took the stage. Turnstile started their set off strong with “T.L.C. (Turnstile Love Connection)” from 2021’s GLOW ON before treating the crowd with some older songs. The band performed a medley of “7” and “Keep it Moving” from the 2013 E.P., Step 2 Rhythm, along with “Gravity” and “Drop” from 2015’s full-length album, Nonstop Feeling. There wasn’t a quiet moment throughout the night without someone jumping off the stage. Turnstile is proving to be one of the most impressive bands and if you haven’t listened yet, take this as your sign!
