Gramercy Theatre (New York City, NY)

On her first ever North American headlining tour, Chinese-American singer Tiffany Day brought her magnetic energy to the eager Sunday night crowd at Gramercy Theater in NYC. Tiffany originally gained traction in the music industry as a teenager on YouTube, singing covers and putting together sing off videos of her against herself. In 2017, a 48 second clip of her belting Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah” into a well in Venice went viral, making headlines across global news outlets.
After seeing Tiffany open for Blu DeTiger’s Blu DeTOUR last fall, I was thrilled to hear she was embarking on her very own – The Gratitude Tour. Her stop in NYC was special, featuring an extra intimate opening set from Juno Roome in addition to opener Alex Porat’s alluring performance. As the contents of the stage began to shift around in preparation for Tiffany, fans were enlivened to see a bed, adorned with pink sheets and plush toys, placed on the stage. As the lights dimmed, the crowd chanted “MOMMY” over and over, and the energy in the room certainly electrified as Tiffany took to the stage with her unmatched stage presence. She opened with one of her latest hyperpop releases, “DREAMS ABT OPTIMISM,” from her newest E.P., THE GRATITUDE PROJECT, which she jumped and danced around for, much like her energetic fans. Before her performance of “CALONE,” Tiffany yelled, “If you know this next one, sing along, and if you don’t, move your fucking mouth and pretend like you know it!”
The biggest surprise of the show was undoubtedly when the stage lights were traded for lasers and Tiffany Day transformed into DJ Monolid. Within the first 15 minutes of her set, she converted the place into a rave with her dubstep side quest. You would have never guessed it was a Sunday night given the dynamism of the crowd. After 10 minutes, gears shifted back to singing, but that is not all she had in store. She picked up her electric guitar for a few songs, busted out a choreographed dance as her drummer Ross played a beat, and later moved to the bed to perform during a bass heavy track. For her encore, she played “IF I DON’T TEXT YOU FIRST,” her first song to hit 10 million streams on Spotify, and “SAN FRANCISCO SIDEWALK,” a vibrant and bittersweet pop track about her friends.
Tiffany undeniably delivered. Her range of singing, dancing, DJing, and hyping up the crowd manifests into a memorable performance that everyone should experience.
