Rock band The Smile brought their summer tour to Richmond, Virginia for a sold-out show at The National. The band has a unique sound that covers multiple genres, pulling inspiration from electronic music and subgenres of rock music. The show begins with vocalist Thom Yorke performing a solo on the keyboard, before picking up the energy quickly with “Thin Thing” and “The Opposite” from their 2020 debut album, A Light for Attracting Attention. The band consisting of drummer Tom Skinner and guitarist + bassist Jonny Greenwood is a spinoff of iconic rock band Radiohead, and it was clear that many of the fans in the audience were Radiohead fans as well. The show concluded with Thom performing a fan favorite from his solo work, “FeelingPulledApartByHorses.”
