The Marías: Submarine

Hollywood Forever Cemetery (Los Angeles, CA)
08/22/2024

On August 22nd, The Marías brought their “Submarine” tour to the Hollywood Forever Cemetery in Los Angeles, California. On the walk through the gates towards the performance area, string lights adorned the palm trees and were strung across the streets to light the paths. Fans lined the general admission pit area, eager to get close to their favorite band. Most brought blankets and coolers filled with drinks and dinner as they sat patiently in the grass and waited for the show to begin. Lining the edge of the grass were merch booths, taco stands, and more.

Starting off the night was the trio Automatic, who got the crowd amped up for the night ahead. Later in the evening, The Marías walked out on stage and were met with an enthusiastic crowd filling a large section of the cemetery. The psychedelic soul band is made up of María Zardoya, Josh Conway, Jesse Perlman, and Edward James, who are all very close friends. Starting off with “Hamptons,” Zardoya stood at the back of the stage with a silhouette. Their set design was very visually pleasing and unique, even including a bathtub on stage. As “Run Your Mouth” began to play, the lead singer emerged from side stage and strutted out to center stage, interacting with fans along the way. They played several other hits throughout their set, including “No One Noticed” and “Otro atardecer,” before finishing off the night with two encores. With several Grammy nominations and chart-topping hits, The Marías have continued to experience more and more success. With an upcoming slot supporting Billie Eilish in December, it is clear that the group will only get bigger and better from here.
