HI-FI (Indianapolis, IN)
10/07/23
The Lemon Twigs visited the HiFi in Indianapolis in the midst of their fall tour across North America for a night of sixties nostalgia. It was kind of like time-traveling; fans dressed in bell bottoms and old suede packed the venue like sardines. The Long Island-based indie-rock band emerged onstage with the utmost style and confidence, and the energy in the room instantly skyrocketed.
Brothers Brian and Michael D’Addario led the group through the multiple part harmonies and eclectic guitar tones that make up most of their songs. They opened with three songs – all from their 2023 album, Everything Harmony, a modern record full of songs that feel like classics. Fans were grooving to the ear worms while the band jumped and kicked above their heads like acrobats. There was a sort of choreography to The Lemon Twigs’ set, and it was wildly impressive to see the band swap instruments in between songs with such grace.
Hits like “Any Time of Day” and “I Wanna Prove To You” were sung word for word by the crowd. The room grew hot from all the free-spirited dancing, and it all felt like a surf-rock party. After the show, The Lemon Twigs returned onstage to perform a cover of “Hold Me Tight” by none other than The Beatles – one of The Lemon Twigs’ most obvious influences. Something about their modern-day Beach Boys sound as a band in 2023 makes The Lemon Twigs a group that’s hard to forget. From the disco glam fashion worn by the band and the crowd to the undeniable grooviness in the music – it’s safe to say that Indianapolis will be humming tunes by The Lemon Twigs for decades to come.
