Born in Switzerland but growing up in Nashville, TN, Sophia Allison, better known by her stage name Soccer Mommy, closed out Grand Rapids’ outdoor Listening Lawn’s summer concert series on August 7th. For a Monday night, the crowd was excited and eager to see the alt-indie singer-songwriter perform a setlist packed with hits, including her latest cover of “Soak Up the Sun” by Sheryl Crow. Guitar-driven and delivering honest vocals, Soccer Mommy provided an atmospheric environment for the diverse fanbase this show attracted. From young to old, teens and their friends to children and their parents, everyone seemed to be enjoying Soccer Mommy’s time on stage.
With support from Pool Kids, it truly was a memorable night of music in Grand Rapids. This was the eleventh show on Soccer Mommy’s summer tour, which included stops at Osheaga and Outside Lands. Other dates on this tour featured music from Maggie Rogers, Angelica Garcia, Disq, and Bratty & Blue Rain Boots, but the Pool Kids and Soccer Mommy collaboration couldn’t have provided a more perfect mix of music and genres.
Soccer Mommy is definitely a must-see artist if you want to connect with your sad girl side, want to enjoy a night of refreshing music, or both!
