The National (Richmond, VA)

A Rubblebucket performance is like a visual of the most vivid daydream you’ve ever had. Taking performance art to a whole new level, the art-pop band from Massachusetts brought their Earth Worship Tour across North America. The tour is in support of their 6th full-length album, Earth Worship, which was released at the end of 2022.
Opening the Richmond, Virginia show was indie-rock band Lunar Vacation, who was loved by the crowd. Being a bit slower paced, the band got the crowd equally comfortable and hyped for the remainder of the show. Rubblebucket began their set with lead vocalist Annakalmia Traver sporting a large cone on her head with a veil draped over it. Once leading into “Cherry Blossom” from Earth Worship, other half of the duo Alex Toth brought out a large flower crown for Annakalmia and single flower hats covering their entire faces for the backing band members. The dance routine to the band’s high energy dance music was perfectly executed, and it’s clear that Rubblebucket puts thought into every aspect of their live show.
