Gramps (Miami, FL)
05/24/23
At the end of May, British rock band Panchiko brought their “Failed at Math(s)” tour to Gramps in Miami, Florida for their first ever Florida show. Before doors opened, fans wrapped around the surrounding buildings in the Wynwood neighborhood of Miami in anticipation for the sold-out show. Even the rain beforehand did not crush the spirits of fans awaiting this incredible performance.
Kicking off the night, rock band LSD and the Search for God transported the crowd with their dreamy shoegaze tracks, complemented by the surrounding rain. The layered guitars in shoegaze bands created such a unique sound that seemed to really resonate with the crowd. Their dreamy vocals in addition to the instruments made for a sound that really drew the crowd in, setting the tone for the other acts to come. Horse Jumper of Love followed up with another amazing set, showcasing their signature sound of introspective and moody rock accompanied by raw vocals. With the crowd warmed up, it was about time for Panchiko to take the stage.
The roar that erupted from the crowd as the band entered the stage was insane to hear. Needless to say, the crowd was loud and excited for this highly anticipated show. The crowd’s energy kept up through the night considerably. The band seemed to respond very well to this energy, giving them the push that they needed to make their performance exceptional. I found that their live vocals sounded just as good, if not better, compared to released recordings, which I find is a rare occurrence. Overall, the band itself was extremely tight, making for a top of the line live performance.
