Amos’ Southend (Charlotte, NC)
02/10/23
I go to a lot of concerts. I’ve been to shows that have blown my mind; however, I can’t say that I’ve ever seen a local band that matched up to shows that I’ve seen at my local arena – that was until Oceanic’s album release show.
Oceanic packed out Amos’ Southend in Charlotte, NC on a Friday night with family, friends, and lots of fans to celebrate the release of their debut album, No, Human! TV’s hanging from the ceiling plus a small catwalk really brought the show to life and quickly became one of the most well produced and impressive shows I’ve been to. Playing through their entire new album, as well as a few of their popular early releases, the band brought energy and insane artistic influence to the stage, proving that they know how to put on a show!
The indie-pop rock band, Oceanic, consisting of vocalist and guitarist Nathan Wyatt, guitarist Jacob Johnson, and bassist Sam Goodwin, formed just over 6 years ago after meeting in college. Speaking with Nathan, he told me that while they didn’t all click at first, they each soon “realized the other guy wasn’t so bad,” and started playing music together. They began by playing at their college open mic nights and soon after, the band started chasing that high and have been playing shows ever since.
This new album has been in the works since the band’s formation, with some songs being written within the first few months they formed. When asked to describe their overall sound, Nathan Wyatt said it best, “Pop sensible sounds and songs, with introspective lyrics to offset the happy-go-lucky indie mood.” He also gave me some insight into their musical influences, largely ranging from Harry Styles to Parannoul, a South Korean Shoegaze musician.
Oceanic’s 11-track debut album, No, Human, dropped on January 27th and is available on all streaming platforms.
