Nessa Barrett took to Toronto’s Phoenix Concert Theatre on March 11th, performing an action-packed set filled with delicate vocals and hard-hitting songs. Her first headline tour is in support of her debut album, young forever, an impressive twist on moody pop music. Barrett has recently been on the come-up, as this stop of the tour was so highly anticipated that it was upgraded to a larger venue that ultimately sold out.
To start off the show, Nessa confidently strutted on stage with a powerful performance of “madhouse,” eliciting a chorus of screams and sing-alongs from the crowd. She continued with a dynamic set of songs from her album and previous E.P., eventually transitioning into an angsty pop-rock rendition of Culture Club’s “Do You Really Want to Hurt Me.”
In a heartfelt moment, the 20-year-old singer-songwriter surprised the audience by bringing out a plaque and sharing some special news: “Today, I got surprised with something… ‘die first’ went gold in Canada!” She then expressed her gratitude for her Toronto fans and explained how the song holds a special place in her heart as it addresses her best friend’s passing.
Despite the show feeling like it flew by, Nessa left a lasting impression with her striking encore of “i hope ur miserable until ur dead,” which had fans jumping along and soaking in every moment. As she bid farewell, she opened a confetti popper and professed her love for her fans.
With the “young forever” tour continuing throughout North America until March 21st, it’s no surprise that tickets are selling out quickly. You won’t want to miss out on the chance to experience Nessa Barrett’s captivating live performance.
