Brooklyn Steel (Brooklyn, NY)
09/27/23
Hailing from Southern California and reigning the post-hardcore scene for the past six years, Movements, consisting of Patrick Miranda, Ira George, Spencer York, and Austin Chessey, are fresh off the debut of their third studio album and in the height of their fall tour. Packing Brooklyn Steel, the 1,800-capacity New York City venue on a chilled Wednesday in September, the four-piece’s devoted fanbase never disappoints, channeling all their energy into the 18-track setlist filled with a variety of the new and classic.
RUCKUS!, Movements’ latest project, steers listeners who are used to their visceral, in-your-face lyrics and sound into a much more heartfelt direction, while still delivering the album’s variety of experimental sounds in that same groovy hardcore fashion that they are known and loved for. The crowd, who responded well to bouncy high energy performances and the blaring guitar riffs of tracks such as “Lead Pipe” and “I Hope You Choke,” complete frontman Miranda’s goal for the album of “stirring the people up.” Classics such as “Third Degree” and “Kept” also kept the room up and moving throughout the night. Their tour is currently making its way through stops in Portland, Oregon and parts of California, with incredible support from fireball emerging artists Softcult and Mannequin Pu$$y, before wrapping up with their sweep through Europe, with their appearance at When We Were Young Fest smack in the middle.
You definitely don’t want to miss adding RUCKUS!, or any of Movements’ discography for that matter, to your playlist rotations this fall.
