Multi-hyphenated and genre-defying are the two best terms to describe MOD SUN. He’s experimented with countless genres over his nearly two decades of playing music, and his newest album, God Save The Teen, is his newest venture, bringing him back to his emo-rock roots. The new album is full-fledged pop-punk, careful not to include any hip-hop influence from his 2015-2017 albums Look Up, Movie, and BB. It’s incredibly impressive to see an artist maintain such a strong fanbase all through switching genres pretty drastically.
MOD SUN brought his God Save The Teen Tour all around North America in early spring, and performed a sold-out show at the Agora in Cleveland, Ohio. The first half of the show consisted of songs from his most recent full-lengths, God Save The Teen and Internet Killed The Rockstar. The middle of the set is an ode to his previous eras, performing a melody of “Shoot ’Em Down,” and “My Hippy” from 2015’s Look Up, “We Do This Shit” from 2017’s Movie, “happyBB” from 2017’s BB, and “Stoner Girl” from 2012’s Happy As Fuck E.P.! He also was sure to perform classic fan favorites like “Stay Away,” which has over 50 million streams on Spotify alone.
MOD SUN’s live performance is as equally impressive as his music alone, and it’s clear that he is here to stay, no matter what venture he chooses next.
