Fox Theater (Oakland, CA)
09/21/23
British singer-songwriter Maisie Peters returned to the Bay Area for an enchanting performance at the Fox Theater in Oakland as part of her “The Good Witch” world tour. The tour supports her sophomore album of the same name which was released earlier in June. As the chords of the title track, “The Good Witch,” echoed through the theater, it was clear that the night would be nothing short of magical. With a curtain backdrop and giant letters spelling “THE GOOD WITCH” behind her band, the good witch herself strut onto the stage to kick off the show.
She began the show with “Coming Of Age” and “Body Better,” two high energy tracks from The Good Witch, welcoming fans to “The Good Witch” tour. Throughout the night, she played 13 out of 15 tracks from the new album, with older songs and fan favorites sprinkled throughout. An incredibly energetic performer, she paced back and forth across the entire stage, often extending her mic to the crowd to scream the lyrics back at her. Hair flips and backbends were common during her show, with tons of dynamic movement, even when tethered to the mic stand during songs where she played the guitar. Such moves made her stage presence both endearing and charismatic. She engaged with the crowd, sharing personal anecdotes while introducing her songs, and her charisma and wit were evident as she effortlessly charmed everyone in the room.
At the halfway mark, she took the crowd on a short journey through her discography sampling a song from each of her eras: a medley of “Two Weeks Ago” from her most recent album, 2018 single “Worst of You,” and “You Signed Up for This” from her 2021 album of the same name, along with a One Direction cover that had the entire room screaming along to. Her growth as an artist is incredible to watch, leveling up her venue sizes with every tour for the past few years. Her fans are adoring, evident from the growing stack of friendship bracelets she receives from them every show. The high energy closer with her 2022 single, “Cate’s Brother,” left the crowd craving for more, and Maisie returned to the stage for an encore to end the night with an exclamation mark. The encore consisted of two songs from The Good Witch, the first, “History of Man,” was gentler, and Maisie brought opener Grace Enger back onto the stage to sing it with her. “Lost The Breakup” was a perfect ending to the night, with perfectly scream-able lyrics and an upbeat tempo, and as the evening drew to a close, it was evident that Maisie Peters had cast a spell on the Fox Theater crowd.
Her charm, wit, and undeniable talent left concertgoers in awe, giving her fans a bewitching experience that night. During the witchiest season of the year, Maisie Peters’ performance at the Fox Theater was nothing short of magical.
