Electronic musician Inji brought her “LFG” pop-up show to New York City for an electrifying performance. The energy was on high the entire evening, only taking a breath for some solemn ballads. Inji took the world by storm when her biggest track “GASLIGHT” blew up on TikTok. Her bubbly dance hits are so contagious, you can’t help but move and sing along to the hypnotizing drum beats. Inji’s recorded tracks have the power to make you dance, move, or get work done. However, what her live show does to these songs takes them to a level of their own.
This is Inji’s first tour and her third show ever, but you’d never know that she’s a stranger to the stage. Inji commanded the stage and let New York City know that she did not come to play. She had the venue shaking, keeping up such impressive energy throughout the set as she belted her hits. Inji was very interactive with her crowd, making her pitch to attendees that she’s an artist to watch. Introducing almost every song with its backstory and tone, Inji kept the audience in the loop with her. We were all there together, all there to party. She recounted tales from her time studying at Penn that inspired tracks, talked about working together with her friends to make music, and even asked the crowd to share their own stories. Before singing “GASLIGHT,” she asked audience members to tell her about their terrible exes and encouraged everyone to hype the storytellers up. The crowd swelled with excitement and cheers before screaming every word of the chorus at the top of their lungs.
She played the entirety of her first E.P., LFG, and even treated the audience to a couple of unreleased songs that were a new direction from her current sound. “Breathe In” captivates with a mesmerizing melody that takes your heart rate back down to Earth. Inji told the crowd that she created it as a track to have if you’re losing touch with reality in an overwhelming space. It’s that perfect song to have on your festival playlists in case you need a moment to yourself among the madness of a rave. “Exes” is a vulnerable song compared to her others, taking a more mellow approach to dealing with heartbreak. The final unreleased song “BOOM CHICKA” takes the energy right back up, but with a fun new sound. Inji closed her show with an encore cover of “American Boy” by Estelle, an unexpected twist from the artist. It didn’t matter that this wasn’t her song that she was closing with, the crowd went crazy as we all had a moment that felt torn out of a karaoke bar. Inji puts on a great show, with bouncing energy that will hype you up in seconds.
