Rialto Theatre (Tucson, AZ)

Emo pop-punk band Hot Mulligan tore up Tucson, Arizona’s Rialto Theater on Friday, July 28th, drawing a massive crowd that packed the floor to its limit. The 4-piece band from Lansing, Michigan is known for their unique, punchy pop-punk sound. The band humorously claims to have invented post-punk, and their songs channel genuine emotion, confusion, and irreverent humor alike, and their live shows are full of intense energy. Hot Mulligan’s third full-length album, Why Would I Watch, was released earlier this year and the band has been performing their energizing sets all year long.
The band’s stop in Tucson kicked off with “Drink Milk and Run,” a single from 2022, before whirling through such classic titles from their newest release such as “This Song Is Called It’s Called What It’s Called,” and “John ‘The Rock’ Cena, Can You Smell What the Undertaker.” The band seemed shocked by the energy they drew from the crowd, pausing between songs to offer breathless exclamations of appreciation. The crowd was fifty percent mosh pit and had a steady stream of crowd surfers keeping the pit crew busy. The energy held right up until the end of the last song, “Bckyrd.”
If the show in Tucson was any indication, Hot Mulligan is a hot band, and shows no sign of cooling down. Make sure to catch them at a theater near you.
