El Rey Theatre (Los Angeles, CA)
10/25/23
GAYLE, the 19-year-old singer-songwriter, made a stop on her “Scared but Trying” tour in Los Angeles, California. Fresh off opening slots with mega artists Taylor Swift and P!nk, GAYLE has slowly but surely been growing a dedicated fan base of her own. After reaching massive success with breakout single “abcdefu” in 2021, it is no surprise that she is on the rise to stardom. Fans of all ages waited excitedly outside the venue for the doors to open. It was apparent that this was the first concert for several of these fans.
Starting off the night was Dylan, a 23-year-old English alternative-pop artist, who kicked off the night with a bang. With incredible vocals and lyrics that piqued my interest as a first time listener, it is no wonder that she was chosen to open for Ed Sheeran for his stadium tour this past year. As soon as the lights dimmed and the introduction to “indieedgycool” began, the room seemed to be buzzing with excitement and anticipation. Her unique tone and control became very obvious from the first note of the starting song.
GAYLE brought a few special guests out during her set as well. During “e-z,” Blu DeTiger emerged from the side stage with her signature blue bass in hand. Later on in the set, Em Beihold came out to duet on GAYLE’s cover of “Get the Party Started” by P!nk. Although the energy was high from the crowd during her entire set, the noise level was unmatched as she played her final song, the megahit “abcdefu.” As her tour has come to a close here in the U.S. for this year, there is no doubt that GAYLE is destined for a very long career in the industry.
