Browns Island (Richmond, VA)
06/30/23
Alternative-pop band flipturn performed in Richmond, Virginia on Browns Island for a dreamy, sunny summer night. The band has been growing nonstop over the past two years, last performing in Richmond less than a year ago at a much smaller venue; it was surreal to see such a large crowd on Browns Island. flipturn’s debut album, Shadowglow, was released less than a year ago and since then, they’ve been on countless festivals and touring constantly, bringing their one of a kind live show all over the world.
As the sun set in Richmond, the band kicked off their show with “The Fall,” followed by nearly the entire Shadowglow album. Frontman Dillon Basse, bassist Madeline Jarmanand, and guitarist Tristan Duncan interacted with one another throughout the entire set. Drummer Devon VonBalson and guitarist/synth player Mitch Fountain remained in the back of the stage but put on a show of their own as the set progressed. The band performed a cover right in the middle of the set of one of their favorite songs, “Everybody Wants To Rule The World” by Tears for Fears, which was featured on their record label Dualtone’s Discovered & Covered compilation album. The set came to a close with fan favorite “August” before the band was cheered back onto stage by everyone in the crowd. flipturn then closed out the night with two other fan favorites, “Churches” and “Nickel,” where frontman Dillon Bass jumped into the front of the crowd to sing along with those in the front row.
flipturn is growing more and more everyday, and their unique, dreamy sound is perfect for your summer playlists. Be sure to keep an eye on the band and catch a live show if they come to your city!
