The NorVa (Norfolk, VA)
04/26/23
Indie-folk singer Father John Misty embarked on his second tour following the release of his 5th full-length studio album, Chloë and the Next 20th Century. The second round of tour dates includes cities that weren’t visited on the first run. Being seen as a solo artist, you may expect a Father John Misty show to be lower energy, but there’s a full band behind the singer filling the stage alongside beautiful lighting design and special interludes tying the songs together, making for a beautiful night at The NorVa.
The night included songs across Father John Misty’s entire discography, even treating fans to “The Night Josh Tillman Came to Our Apt.” from his 2nd full-length album, I Love You, Honeybear, which he has not performed in years! Josh Tillman, the singer behind Father John Misty, took time to tell more of the story behind each song. He even gave the crowd a first listen at a new song about halfway through the set, which had a very jazzy FJM sound.
After leaving the stage, fans chanted for Father John Misty to perform one more song – and he came back out to do so, along with 5 others, making it a 6-song encore. He performed fan favorites like “Real Love Baby” and “Holy Shit” until finally closing out the show with “So I’m Growing Old on Magic Mountain.” Be sure to catch Father John Misty if he’s in your area – you won’t want to miss out on a jazzy, dreamy, dance-filled night!
