Rebel Lounge (Phoenix, AZ)

Girl power packed with a punch. After 10 years of making music, Doll Skin took the stage for the last time in their hometown of Phoenix, Arizona. A room that would typically be raging with fiery energy was doomed a more somber feeling as attendees dressed in all black to mourn the final chapter of the Scottsdale-founded alt-rock girl band.
Doll Skin was originally founded in 2013 by vocalist Sydney Dolezal, drummer Meghan Herring, bassist Nicole Rich, and guitarist Alex Snowden – a group of girls who had no true intent to rise to stardom. Doll Skin originally began as a project for a local battle of the bands competition in Scottsdale, winning their first year with a solid 10/10 perfect score. If the stars were not already in their favor, Megadeth bassist David Ellefson just so happened to be sitting in the crowd that night. After following suit in their local rise to fame, Ellefson approached them with an opportunity a year later that would change the course of their career. Ellefson put the group on the road to hone their live act, and they toured the West Coast opening for the likes of D.R.I. and Social Distortion.
10 years later, the alt-rock girl group has made quite a name for themselves in the music industry with the unbridled energy of their songs. They’ve released 3 full-length albums, In Your Face (Again), Manic Pixie Dream Girl, and Love is Dead and We Killed Her. At the time of their debut, the alternative music industry was beginning to see a wonderful and glistening shift of diversity in their creators. Amongst many other female-fronted and originated groups, Doll Skin was a young and reckoning forefront and a breath of fresh air for music lovers. This shift represented the next renaissance of music that stood for something, Doll Skin was not shy of that statement. Their lyrical content creates and drives power and serves purpose, speaking up about mental health, rising against social injustice and misogyny, and fighting for fairness and equality in not only the realm of music, but also in society as a whole. Their ever so inviting and inclusive lyrics are packed with energetic and dirty guitars, punk edged vocals, low growls, and booming riffs. Listening to their music is an experience of a contemptuous web that these four femme fatales were weaving with their multi-layered harmonies and driving tempo. Their songs are undeniably passionate, full of pure anger and power, which displayed through each track is unparalleled in modern music. Doll Skin has made an irrevocable carbon footprint on the world of music and paved a path for future generations of punk rock musicians of all walks of life to rise and follow suit.
