Christian Lee Hutson: Spring 2023

Music Hall of Williamsburg (New York, New York)
06/02/23

On June 2nd, indie singer-songwriter Christian Lee Hutson performed at the Music Hall of Williamsburg in Brooklyn, NY as part of his co-headlining tour with Fenne Lily. Opening up the show was Texas band Why Bonnie with a lovely set of songs largely from their debut full-length album, 90 In November. Following Why Bonnie, Christian Lee Hutson took the stage.

Christian began the evening with a captivating performance of his song, “Strawberry Lemonade,” the opening track off his most recent album, Quitters, which uses pithy stream-of-consciousness lyrics to share small vignettes of memories and reflections on life and relationships. He followed with “State Bird,” another track off of Quitters, before diving into some older tunes, including “Northsiders” and “Atheist” from his 2020 full-length album, Beginners. Throughout the night, he rotated from performing full band and solo acoustic, and even had a few friends join him onstage for a select few songs.

A highlight of the evening was the beautiful lighting – the stage was backdropped by a large banner of the Quitters album art – a lonely night time pool scene washed in purples, with distant city lights in the background. On the banner, the painted city lights were replaced with real dots of glowing light that added to the magic of the room. Some special moments included a stunning performance of fan-favorite “Rubberneckers” and an amusing speech before “Endangered Birds” about the singer’s fondness for horses.

Christian Lee Hutson is a singer-songwriter based in Los Angeles and has released two full-length albums. He has been touring through the United States in support of his album, Quitters, which was produced by Phoebe Bridgers and Conor Oberst.
