Breakup Shoes: The Death Of Everything Worrisome

Crescent Ballroom (Phoenix, AZ)
08/24/23

Arizona-based indie-pop band Breakup Shoes played a packed show at the Crescent Ballroom in Phoenix on August 24th to celebrate the release of their new album, The Death Of Everything Worrisome. The crowd, buzzing with energy from the two lively pop-punk openers, cheered wildly as Breakup Shoes took the stage and launched into “Playing With Fire,” one of their best-known hits. After playing a few of their older releases, lead singer Nick Zawisa proudly introduced the album to the crowd, and the band began playing through the entire release.

The Death of Everything Worrisome is a gently honest and vulnerable reflection on the difficulty of modern life. The song “Monotony” is an attempt to digest the difficulty of numbing-out, with frontman Zawisa singing,“Fill my brain with enough distractions to numb the pain of consciousness.” “Rat Race” goes along similar lines, questioning the nine-to-five workday at a menial job, with barely enough time in the evening to do any of the things that make us feel good. Drenched in existential worry as it is, the album still has its high points. “Get Lost” is a happy-go-lucky whirlwind of infatuation and “forgetting everything shitty.” The closing track, “At Least I’ve Still Got Some Friends” is a bittersweet love letter to everything good in life and the people that provide meaning in the monotony.

Breakup Shoes is a fantastic indie-pop act, Phoenix-area legends, and their shows are always a blast. They have no tour dates announced yet, but they surely will soon, so make sure to keep an eye on them so you don’t miss out!
