Angel Olsen and her Big Time Band stopped in Bloomington, Indiana during her winter tour for a sold-out show at the iconic Bluebird nightclub, where artists such as Lou Reed and John Mellancamp once performed. In June of 2022, Angel Olsen released her 6th full-length album, Big Time, which explores an entirely new sound for the indie-pop artist: sweet country twang. The record was released on Jagjaguar Records, a label based in the heart of none other than Bloomington, Indiana.
Olsen’s set consisted of songs mostly from her new album. She began the night with “Dream Thing” and the audience immediately began to swoon. The energy in the room was magnificent and massive. The crowd belted lyrics to Olsen’s hit single, “Big Time,” and the music could be heard throughout the entirety of downtown Bloomington. As the set progressed, Olsen turned the energy up even higher with performances of “Shut Up Kiss Me” and “Some Things Cosmic.”
The crowd never thinned and the music never quieted until the utterance of the last words of the encore song, “Without You,” a beautifully performed Harry Nilsson cover. Angel Olsen exited the stage of the Bluebird having given everything she had, and the audience left that night with magic in their eyes.
