6LACK’s “Since I Have A Lover” tour began on October 4th and concluded on November 24th in his hometown, Atlanta. 6LACK is a three-time Grammy-nominated artist and rightfully so. While many know him for his “Pretty Little Fears” track with J. Cole, 6LACK has expanded his audience and genre largely since 2018.
Ahead of 6LACK coming on stage, opener Jordan Ward played his R&B songs, capturing the audience’s energy. Ward is best known for his song entitled “White Crocs.” DJ Tonee then took the stage, playing hip-hop tracks and hits after hits to get the audience energized before 6LACK began his set. 6LACK then entered as smoke machines went off and the crowd held their deafening screaming for well over a minute. 6LACK stayed back for his first song, letting his silhouette be the backdrop of “Inward Hill Park” among the backlit lights, LED screen and scenery on stage.
After “Inward Hill Park,” 6LACK went through a few more songs from his most recent album, Since I Have A Lover, before reverting back to a few classics from his older albums, Free 6LACK and East Atlanta Love Letter. He also covered songs he was featured in, from artists Snoh Aalegra, Lil Tjay, and Khalid, wrapping up his set with the highly anticipated title track from the album that the whole tour was in support of: “Since I Have a Lover.”
6LACK’s newest album, in contrast to his previous albums focusing on heartbreak and relationships, centers around themes of self-growth and happiness. He was highly interactive with the audience, sharing vulnerable stories about mental health and engaging with the audience often. In fact, his tour raised over $4,000 for the nonprofit Sounds of Saving, which helps connect music and greater mental wellbeing. 6LACK will continue his “Since I Have A Lover” tour next year in Europe – be sure to buy tickets if you’re around!
